As I sit in this cozy coffee house next to the works of artist Sea Dean hanging on the wooden wall, I’m thinking, ever too much, of my first words for the first post of my blog.
Then I realize, thinking is highly over-rated.
Well, thinking is helpful in many situations. For instance: after you jump out of a plane at 12,000 ft and while enjoying the view it crosses your mind, “I need to pull a cord to open my chute. Where was it again, on the left or the right… is it this one?” (This is a true life example by the way, but that story can be saved for another time).
So here I sit, enjoying the sights and sounds of my surroundings while drinking fresh-brewed coffee from my Swell bottle, contemplating eating my breakfast sandwich I ordered while typing... do I really want to have the potential greasiness and breakfast-sandwich-smell lingering on my keyboard?
These are things I think about; I can’t help it.
F*ck it, I’m doing it! (after embarrassingly snapping a quick picture of it on my iPhone)
I’ve always felt a bit uncomfortable taking photos in public, especially of food, because I feel like people are watching, which they very well may be, but it just makes me more aware that they are aware. But who cares really? Well, me apparently… possibly due to the anxiety that comes and goes throughout my life. But you know what...
Life is short
Take pictures
Enjoy the view!
So maybe this is how my first post is going to go, a little get-to-know-me over coffee.
I am many layers. I’ve had many lives, like a cat, without the constant purring (unfortunately) and with less fur (fortunately).
I’m a straight-forward person (sometimes incredibly blunt) and I appreciate the honesty and straightforwardness of others. Unfortunately there are some people who believe that being blunt and being unkind are the same thing.
They are not.
I recently put a post “Describe me in one word” on my personal FB page and tagged various people. Some of the people have known me for decades and others I have met over the last few years in the Okanagan. I actually received more responses than I thought I would!
Some responses were very kind:
"beautiful" "pretty" "kind" "thoughtful" "gorgeous" "open-minded" "strong" (this one came up a few times)
Some were titles:
"daughter" "friend" "human" (one of my favs)
Some I had to look up the definition for, but appreciated:
"sedulous" "ineffable" and "enigma"
One in particular made me snort laugh because anyone who truly knows me knows that this is a true fit:
"deadpan" (thank you Jessica C.)
Well, I think I'll leave it at that.
A unique little get-to-know-me intro to my blog.
And if you're a coffee addict like me, or just want to find a relaxing new spot to sit and relax, read a book, write a blog, have a bite to eat, then be sure to visit Lake Country Coffee House.
